Stumbled along a pretty nice overview and first impressions of the major players in Cloud Management. I’ve installed both Eucalyptus and OpenStack and agree with the assessment for both projects. OpenStack is promising but still young and the Open Source Eucalyptus is geared toward organizations that don’t need a user friendly interface or any console for that matter.
vCloud Director is a strong candidate for any environment that’s purely vSphere and CloudStack looks pretty promising. As the article concludes, there’s not a one size fits all for cloud management. Its a complex set of software that needs a complete trade analysis against your organization’s cloud requirements.
