I’ve been salivating over the new Macbook Pro with Retina display. Not just because of the amazing 15.4″ 2880 x 1880 resolution or the Solid State Drives. But the fact this is one of the few 15″ laptops that supports 16GB of RAM. As I’ve said before, virtualization is all about RAM and with 16GB of it in my workstation I can break the limits of some of my labs. I recently tried to get XenDesktop running in my XPS lab and failed due to my RAM limitation.
But at about $3,000 for the configuration that would suit my needs I balked at purchasing one of these beasts. And the fact that I don’t care much for Mac OS X is a smaller issue. In a casual conversation with one of my co-workers he mentioned that the my XPS 15 should support 16GB of RAM with no issues. I got exicited and did a quick Amazon search and found this 2x8GB memory kit and reviews that it works fine with my XPS 15.
Needless to say I ordered the memory and I’m anxious to receive it and give my XenDesktop Lab another go. I’ll make sure to update you on the results of the additional memory in VMware Workstation.
